I figured at some point something like this would come out. Different online things have been closer and closer to just writing essays for students. I think this is a terrible thing to do. Yes, essay do take a lot of work but thats why you are in school, to learn. It requires work, time, and effort and students should be able to suck it up and do it even if they have very busy lives.
In a more professional sense it can also be kind of nerve wrecking. If you think about it, these people who are supposed to be professionals some day are not doing the research required to complete a course to recieve their degree. What if it is a doctor who is supposed to research a certain disease and they end up handing it off to a stranger? The doctor won't know something important that they are supposed to.

Media and Social Structure
I never noticed how media played such an influence in how people treat other people or how we were socially structured until a couple years ago. When I started taking classes about the media, my eyes have been opened to the idea that the media has a lot to do with how we view everything around us, including people. Things like movies have developed stereotypes by making black or hispanic people act a certain way. The news basically tells us what to think and what to be afraid of in the world without giving us the full truth behind it. With all the gatekeeping we really do not know what is going on in the world and that is a scary thought.
When it comes to social status, things like tv, magazines, and movies have the biggest influence. In the media, the popular people are usually the best looking and the most influential in big companies are also usually very good looking. This idea then gets placed into the heads of everyone that sees it whether they realize they believe it or not.

Beauty
I have always found it interesting that different cultues view beauty differently. But the reason for that being is because here, when we see movies that are supposed to represent different cultures or countries and we think it is accurate but because it is a movie made in the United States, our idea of beauty if still represented. Example. In Rush Hour 2, Carter and Lee are in China. I do not know China's idea of beauty, but when the lead Chinese woman came out, she was thin, lean, very clear and nice face, and was able to kick butt. I do not if in China they really find that attractive in a woman but here, men do.
When I always heard the term "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" I always thought of it more as each man, strictly in the United States, has a different view of what is beautiful. Now I see it more as depending on where you are, different men find different traits attractive. More or less I am thinking of it more broadly and not so focused on just where I live.

Representation of the Cartoon
In my eyes it is a racist cartoon. There is no need to show President Obama as a monkey. Also, I think showing the President gunned down at all is disrepesctful.
But, I can see how this could be misinterpreted. Maybe it is due to the fact that the money thing just has recently been going on and the person who wrote the cartoon just views the Stimulus plan as something so simple, or so stupid, a monkey could write it.

Modernism- Post Moderism- Modernization
Modernism
Modernism refers to the latest things in todays society. This includes evreything from clothes, to ideas, to art. But it mostly includes news technologies. Modernism revolves round change. If there was no change, modernism would not occur. Also, it occurs when thinkers and creaters start to consider things out dated and confronted the situation.
Post Modernism
Post modernism started at the end of WWII. Post modernism was also the introduction the new technologies involving communication. For post modernidm to occur something involving culture, art and what not needed to occur.
Modernization
Modernization is the actual process of making things modern. It started occuring around the time of the industrial revolution because of the new discoveries. The modernization of a region replaced some of their way to a more "Westernized" way of thinking. But modernization technically refers to the present.
All together modernism, post modernism, and modernization are different time periods yet they are all linked together. This is a process that has been occuring since the beginning of time whether the actual idea of the process has been "created" yet or not. The world is always changing and always "modernizing": so this process will stick with us forever.

Cow Representation
This article taught me something I did not know . I did not know that the Maasai gave us something so special. Representation means a lot in this story. If a farmer here decided to give the country cows people would think that was nothing special. But for the Maasai cows are so sacred that being given them means more than if it came from another country. The cows represent something big and important in their community and it is important for Americans to realize what cows represent.
Since the weather did not permit the cows to live here, I think it is amazing and nice that the Maasai are taking care of them for us and doubled the number of the cows. I always like how they are called the "American cows."
These cows show that the Maasai have a respect for us and its a honor to have them given to us.

Communication Models
The first of the two models mentioned is the Transmission Model. The Transmission Model is very simple and therefore popular. It has three basic ideas behind it: source, message, and reciever. This model is also the basic idea of taking one object from one place to another location. This is the most straightforward method of communication.
The Culture Model is more in depth and requires more thought. The sender needs to think about what their message is going to say because the reicever has their own thoughts and beliefs about the message sent. If the sender says the wrong thing, it might get interpreted differently, and possibly negatively, by the reciever. Because this method requires more thought, there is a bigger meaning to the message being sent. This model is basically about what the message says to the reciever.

Representation & The Media
When listening to Stuart Hall speak, the main thing that caught my attention was that representation is saturated by the media. In the world today we are basically run and base our lives off of what the media tells us to do. Whether it is telling us what we need to look like, how to eat, or even what to eliminate from our lives. There are people who are afraid of leaving their homes and I believe the media is to blame for some of that. They way they talk on the news about all these different ways to get cancer, or viruses makes the world seem scarier than it is. The media also influences what we buy. It could be for fashion, but it could also be household products that if you do not have them, you can will get sick, or so they say.
True meaning versus media representation is a big thing also. The way I see this as being most true is when it was about the war. We live in an ethnocentric enviornment so we only see what we are doing right. Mind you, I do not think bad about America and the countries decisions, but I do think we do not know what is really happening, we just know the media representation. An example for this that I can think of is when my sister went to study abroad in Spain. She told me the things the news was playing about the war was way different than what we see here. It was more graphic and did not always make us look like the good guys. The only real effect hearing this had on me was how much the media can manipulate our perspective of what is really going on.
